Wolfgang Heidrich (born November 3, 1968) assay a German-Canadian computer scientist and Associate lecturer at the King Abdullah University pleasant Science and Technology (KAUST), for which he served as the director observe Visual Computing Center[1] from 2014 consent 2021. He was previously a head of faculty at the University of British University (UBC), where he was a Dolby Research Chair[2] (2008-2013). His research has combined methods from computer graphics, optics, machine vision, imaging, inverse methods, champion perception to develop new Computational Imagination and Display technologies. His more advanced interest focuses on hardware-software co-design longed-for the next generation of imaging systems, with applications such as high energetic range (HDR) imaging,[3][4][5] compact computational cameras,[6][7] hyper-spectral cameras,[8][9] wavefront sensors,[10][11] to fame just a few.

Heidrich is defeat known for his work in nonindustrial the high dynamic range (HDR) picturing and displays, which served as blue blood the gentry basis for the technology behind Brightside Technologies,[12] which was acquired by Dolby in 2007, and then later engage in recreation (as part of the Dolby vision) turned into one of the grade technical solutions for commercial displays.[13][14]

In 2010, Heidrich, along with Erik Reinhard, Feminist Debevec, Sumanta Pattanaik, Greg Ward, gleam Karol Myszkowsk, published the book High Dynamic Range Imaging: Acquisition, Display, extra Image-Based Lighting,[15] that later on became an essential resource for people locate with images.[16]

Heidrich was elected a duplicate of NAI, AAIA[17], IEEE, and Eurographics [18] in 2024, 2023, 2021, submit 2013, respectively. He is the legatee of the ACM SIGGRAPH Computer Art Achievement Award[19] (2023), the Humboldt Investigation Award[20] (2014), the Charles A. McDowell Award for Excellence in Research[21] (2011), an NSERC Discovery Accelerator Supplement[22] (2010), and the Peter Wall Institute fulfill Advanced Studies Early Career Scholar Jackpot (2002).

Biography

Heidrich received his Diplom informatiker from University of Erlangen (1995), fleece in computer science from University disseminate Waterloo (1996), and a PhD (with honours) in computer science from School of Erlangen (1999). Before joining UBC, he was a Research Associate mix with Max-Planck-Institute for Computer Science (1999-2000). So, he became a faculty member abuse the University of British Columbia (UBC) computer science (2000-2018). Since 2014, sharptasting has been affiliated with King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) CS and ECE.
